May 22, 2013Many organizations today sit on an enormous amount of information. This data is coming in from various sources, originating both inside and outside of the organization. However, when it comes to extracting insights and making predictions that can guide the way of future actions, most companies struggle. To effectively make use of the data and get answers that can point your organization in the right direction, it is important to ask the right questions.
The Economist Intelligence Unit conducted a global survey of 373 senior executives to find both benefits and challenges of asking better questions of data in analytics efforts. The results are gathered in the report ‘In search of insight and foresight – getting more out of big data’, and can be downloaded for free!
These were the key findings:
- Asking better questions is critical to leveraging data in decision-making
- Focusing on a business outcome is crucial, yet a struggle for most companies
- The main challenges are with people, not technology
- Top performers gain competitive advantage from data
